Unexpected Cameos in K-Dramas (Part 1)

Cameo appearances by popular actors and actresses in K-Dramas have been a trend for many years. Here are some unexpected, scene-stealing cameo roles which you shouldn’t miss!


LEE JOON GI  AND KIM SOO HYUN IN HOTEL DEL LUNA

Lee Joon Gi made a surprise cameo appearance in Hotel Del Luna as Park Il Do, the ex-Hotel Del Luna manager who turned into a priest to perform exorcisms.He appeared in the drama to support IU, his close friend. They were co-actors in Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo. He also worked with Yeo Jin Goo in Iljimae. The reunion of IU and Lee Joon Gi excited many fans, as they are one of the most popular onscreen couples.


 Kim Soo Hyun appeared as a new owner to Hotel Blue Moon in episode 16 of Hotel Del Luna.

It was his first appearance in dramas after being discharged from the military. Even though his cameo appearance is only about a minute long, he became the talk of the town for giving off a strong screen presence.

JO JUNG SUK IN THE LEGEND OF BLUE SEA

Jo Jung Suk played a guest role in The Legend of Blue Sea as a merman who came to land for his love.

In this drama, he helps Shim Cheong in making money through her mermaid tears (because they turn into pearls) and in winning Heo Joon Jae’s heart. Through his tragic-cum-entertaining role, he added a new charm to the drama.

LEE JONG SUK IN WEIGHTLIFTING FAIRY KIM BOK JOO

Lee Jong Suk made a cameo appearance in Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo as a customer at the Bok chicken restaurant.

He was shown as Jong Suk, a shooting champion from the same university as Kim Bok Joo. They made his character in reference to Kang Chul in W. We can also see the reunion of Lee Jong Suk and his W co-star Kang Ki Young in the scene. Lee Jong Suk and Lee Sung Kyung have been close friends in real life for more than 13 years now.

PARK BO GUM IN ITAEWON CLASS

Park Bo Gum made a cameo appearance in Itaewon Class as a new chef at Oh Soo Ah’s restaurant in episode 16.

His appearance is being hinted at as a potential love interest for Oh Soo Ah, as she was shown being impressed by his handsomeness and cooking skills in the job interview. He worked with the director of this drama previously in Love in the Moonlight.

LEE DONG WOOK IN SEARCH: WWW

Lee Dong Wook appeared as Bae Ta Mi’s ex-boyfriend in episode 7 of Search: WWW.

His sudden appearance in the elevator was not only surprising to the audience, but also to the Female Lead, who stood frozen upon seeing him.

BAE SUZY IN MY LOVE FROM ANOTHER STAR

Bae Suzy made a guest appearance in episode 17 of My Love From Another Star as Go Hye Mi, Do Min Joon’s student.

Her role in this drama is a reference to her character, Go Hye Mi, in Dream High. Suzy and Kim Soo Hyun acted together in Dream High in 2011. The chemistry between them in the short scene of My Love From Another Star is lit and reminded many of the sweet Sam Dong – Hye Mi couple.

YEO JIN GOO IN START UP

Yeo Jin Goo appeared as Hong Ji Seok, CEO of Chang Seong Ltd., in episode 16 of Start Up.

Jin Goo also provided the voiceover to Jang Yeong Shil, an AI speaker which gives weather forecasts. Even though many people recognized his voice, it was a surprise to others, including one of Jin Goo’s close friends, who didn’t figure it out until he appeared in the final episode.

KIM HYE YOON AND LEE JAE WOOK IN TRUE BEAUTY

Kim Hye Yoon and Lee Jae Wook made a very short appearance in episode 4 of True Beauty.They appeared as Eun Dan Oh and Beak Kyung, characters from Extraordinary You. The fans who suffered from Second Lead Syndrome in Extraordinary You were happy and surprised by this couple’s appearance. In True Beauty, the Male Lead mistook them as the Female Lead and her blind date in a movie theatre.

SEO IN GUK AND JUNG SO MIN IN ABYSS

Seo In Guk and Jung So Min played guest roles as grim reapers in episode 1 of Abyss.

They both acted previously in the drama The Smile Has Left Your Eyes in 2018. Their roles are important in this drama and add a special meaning to the plot.

KIM SOO HYUN IN CRASH LANDING ON YOU

Kim Soo Hyun appeared as Bang Dong Goo, a North Korean spy, in Crash Landing On You.

He also acted as a North-Korean spy named Bang Dong Goo in the movie Secretly Greatly. This cute cameo role reference is taken from that movie, as Crash Landing On You also has the North-Korean spy backdrop.
