Even though I can aid a Hippocratic oath for engineers and experts (Letters, 1 March), I experience MPs should really make general public declarations that they will act with probity and the highest expectations of integrity in the illustration of their constituency and the work out of business in authorities. A basic extension to the oath of allegiance to the crown should suffice.

I just cannot assume of everyone who justifies a radio programme considerably less than Mary Whitehouse. To suggest that she was forward of her time is laughable (In advance of her time? Programme re-evaluates Mary Whitehouse’s legacy, 1 March). She was a Victorian values conservative who hardly ever questioned the morality of the higher lessons. The programme will remember to all those nostalgic for Margaret Thatcher, who admired Whitehouse. Both of those were phoney moralists.
